The Good Practices, Good Accounts website is the banking sector's first joint financial education project. The aim of this didactic initiative is to provide the public with useful, easily accessible information on bank services using practical, realistic examples similar to many real-life situations that families can identify with.

The idea behind its construction is to facilitate people's involvement and encourage financial attitudes and behaviour leading to informed, responsible, stable decisions. The website's design is different from others in its approach, language and presentation.

The project is aimed at the general public and its contents were created by the APB Financial Literacy Working Group. The group consists of 11 banks in addition to the APB and IFB/ISGB. The main concern of this APB working group was to prepare a common action strategy for the sector, in which actions and goals would be integrated and coordinated, and also align it with the strategy set out in the National Financial Education Plan (PNFF) of the National Council of Financial Supervisors, whose members include Banco de Portugal, Comissão de Mercado de Valores Mobiliários and Instituto de Seguros de Portugal.

The "Boas Práticas, Boas Contas" website complies with the main guidelines of the PNFF financial education initiatives and is part of the sector's financial literacy strategy. This strategy was approved by the APB Board two years ago so that the APB and its Members could play an active role in the public's financial education and contribute to a better understanding of the workings and importance of the financial system in the country's economy.

The website is designed to improve understanding of bank products and the financial culture of the Portuguese-speaking community. The approach uses unique communication based on examples and simple, direct language.

It provides clear and simple education and information on the main banking products and services and encourages new, informed, sustainable habits in dealings with banks and the use of bank services.

Technology

The website is optimised for a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768 px. The quality of XHTML production ensures that the “Good Practices, Good Accounts” website will work well and look good in the most popular browsers. Special care was also taken to make the project fully compatible with mobile platforms such as Android and iOS tablets, which are being used more and more for accessing the internet.
