23rd March, 2017

Associação Portuguesa de Bancos (APB Portuguese Banking Association) and Instituto de Formação Bancária (IFB - Banking Training Institute), in partnership with Junior Achievement, will once again be taking part in European Money Week, an initiative of the European Banking Federation, which will involve banking associations from more than 30 countries. This year’s European Money Week will be taking place from 27 to 31 March.

In this third EMW, the four largest banks in the Portuguese market – CGD, Millennium bcp, Novo Banco and Santander Totta, will be joining the initiative. Twenty students divided into groups of five will have the opportunity to look behind the scenes at these banks, hosted in part by their CEOs, who will chat with them and answer their questions. The students in each group come from different state, private, regular and vocational schools, from the Lisbon region.

This initiative complements the work done over the year by different financial associations and also by a number of banks. Its aim is to draw attention to the importance of more, farther reaching financial education in Portugal and the rest of Europe and raise public awareness of the need to act sensibly and knowledgeably when making financial choices now and in the future.

Children and young people, who are the future consumers of bank products and services, are the target audience for this European Money Week, based on the assumption that customers and the banks themselves benefit from greater financial literacy. The bank associations from the countries involved will be engaging in a vast number of activities this week.
