In addition to EU legislation, number 70 of the APB's Revista da Banca has two important articles:

1) Supervision of bank behaviour - Alexandra G. Marques

The author, Alexandra G. Marques, analyses the implications of the entry into force of Decree-Law 1/2008 at the beginning of 2008. It stepped up the powers and competences of Banco de Portugal (BdP) in the supervision of banks' behaviour in the area of customer protection. A new legal framework for handling complaints from bank customers is particularly important.

Ms Marques also highlights the importance of behavioural supervision as an essential complement to prudential supervision in achieving the two main goals of bank regulation and supervision: systemic stability and consumer protection.

2) Free provision of services in the banking sector - Sofia T. Trocado

The author, Sofia T. Trocado, focuses her attention on issues faced by credit institutions that are established in other EU Member States and wish to freely provide services in Portugal. She also analyses the opposite perspective, i.e. Portuguese credit institutions operating in the EU, if and when a comparison of these two aspects is useful in understanding the initial approach.

Where the RGICSF is concerned, she also analyses the free provision of services in Portuguese law and compares it with the rules on freedom of establishment.
