21st March, 2022

  • Around 100 students from 50 schools will compete in the European Money Quiz National Final
  • The national winners play the European Final and stand a chance to win a trip to Brussels
  • The European Money Week starts today, giving a boost to the Europeans' financial skills

Around 100 students, selected from 50 schools nationwide, will test their knowledge of financial literacy and attempt to become national champions in the 2022 European Money Quiz (EMQ).

The Competition's National Final will take place on March 25th (during the European Money Week), at 11am and can be followed live on APB’s Youtube channel.

During the session, students will have to answer 20 questions on topics such as the economy, family budget management, investment and risk, means of payment or digital security.

The National Final's winning duo will represent Portugal in the European Final, which will be played online on May 10th, bringing together the best of the best at European level. The students who finish in the first five places of the European competition win a two-day trip to Brussels in June. The schools that finish in the top three places of the podium also receive a cash prize to invest in a financial education project.

The 100 finalists who will compete in the national competition were selected in intra-school competitions held in February, in which 2,500 3rd cycle students from all over the country participated.

Created by the European Banking Federation (EBF) in 2018, the EMQ is a competition that aims to test the financial literacy knowledge of young Europeans aged between 13 and 15. For the fifth consecutive year, the APB, which is a member of the EBF, joins this initiative that in Portugal alone has already put more than 9,000 students playing the EMQ.

And it's not only the youngest who can play the quiz. As part of European Money Week (EMW), which this year takes place from the 21st to the 25th of March, the EBF has prepared an online game that also aims to test adults' financial knowledge.

This year, the EMW will focus on the importance of strengthening the financial skills of the Europeans, whether in times of crisis or to access the capital market.

On the APB website  you can find out more about these initiatives, which start today and are also aligned with the Global Money Week, promoted by the OECD.
