4th February, 2022

Around 50 schools and more than 2,500 students at national level will participate in the 5th edition of the European Money Quiz, in search of a place on the podium of what is the biggest financial literacy competition in Europe.

Created by the European Banking Federation (EBF), the European Money Quiz was designed to test the knowledge of 3rd cycle students aged between 13 and 15 in areas such as money, risk, inflation, means of payment or online security.

In Portugal, the intra-school competitions will start on 7th February and, for two weeks, dozens of schools from north to south of the country will play the first phase of the quiz through the online platform Kahoot.

The two best students from each school will then qualify to play the National Final, which will take place on 25th March. The pair that wins the national competition wins a direct ticket to the European Final where the best of the best from 30 European countries will be present. This super final is scheduled for the 10th of May and will take place online.

This year there will also be prizes for the European top five. Students in the top five places of the competition will win a two-day trip to Brussels, in June. Schools in the top three podium places will also receive a cash prize to invest in a financial education project.

Since 2018, the European Banking Federation, which congregates Europe's banking associations - including the Portuguese Banking Association - has been promoting the European Money Quiz with the aim of fostering financial literacy among young people. The EBF estimates that since its creation, the quiz has been played by over 700,000 students across Europe.
