Agreement on cooperation between the two institutions representing the banking sectors in their countries.

These are the areas in which cooperation between the two banking associations will be stepped up by means of exchanges of information, sharing of experiences and consultancy, whenever appropriate.Amílcar Azevedo da Silva, president of Associação Angolana de Bancos (ABANC) and Fernando Faria de Oliveira, president of the Portuguese Banking Association today signed an agreement to foster cooperation between the two representatives of their countries' banking sectors.

The agreement lays the foundations for strengthening the relationship between the two institutions with greater cooperation in fundamental areas of the banking sector. These include development and modernisation, the banks' relationship with society and greater preparation for the challenges that they have to face at national and international level.

The aim of the agreement is to achieve greater synergies and convergence in the banks' spheres of action so that they can establish transparent, reliable, mutually advantageous relationships and offer advantages to each other in their work.

The goals of the APB and the ABANC include:

  • Improving the sector's economic, technical and social performance.
  • Raising the qualifications of the sector's employees
  • Playing a central role in discussions on the changes in the sector's rules and regulations
  • Playing a proactive role by taking positions on matters related to the sector
  • Making an active contribution to disseminating information about the sector
  • Contributing to a transparent, credible relationship of trust between banks and society
  • Creating a better understanding of the importance of the financial and banking system in the country's economy
  • Contributing to better use of bank products and services
  • Playing an active role in financial education
