“There is financial education at schools. Don't be left out.”

As a partner in the National Financial Education Plan (PNFF), the APB will be attending the commemorations of Financial Education Day this year at Escola Filipe de Vilhena in Porto.

On Financial Education Day, the PNFF partners get together to raise people's awareness of the importance of financial education. This year, the commemorations will be focusing on schools and will take place at Escola Secundária Filipa de Vilhena in Porto.

The session with the members of the National Council of Financial Supervisors at Escola Filipa de Vilhena can be watched live using the following access codes: username - PT and password - BP31102013.

Programme – Financial Education Day 2013

In addition to participating in all the PNFF initiatives, the APB recently set up a website, “Good Practices, Good Accounts”, which is the first joint financial education project in the banking sector. The website is for the general public and uses illustrations and clear, simple language to provide useful information about banking services.  This information is based on realistic, practical cases that are similar to many households' real-life situations.

APB activiteies – Escola Filipa Vilhena

- Pilot Branch

This is a branch with its own software for simulations, which will enable visitors and students at the school to open and use a bank account. Students from the Apprenticeship Course at the Bank Training Institute (IFB) in Porto will be in charge of the initiative.

  • Euro 'notes' will be distributed in the training so that 'customers' can open current and savings accounts and make deposits.
  • IFB students and teachers will answer the customers' questions about day-to-day banking matters, such as using cards, loan conditions, savings products, etc.

- APB Stand

  • Touch-screen quiz with questions and answers about bank products and services, so that visitors can check their financial culture.
  • GOOD PRACTICES, GOOD ACCOUNTS – based on good practices and using illustrations and clear, simple language about banking services, where young people can also find information on www.bpbc.pt
  • A small financial education game providing contact with banking and financial matters and encouraging people to look for information on the financial education websites Good Practices, Good Accounts and Everybody Counts.
