The Portuguese Banking Association, in partnership with the CMVM, promoted for the first time the Banking Open Day, a day in which banks from north to south of the country opened their doors to hold explanation sessions on basic investment principles.

For the first time it was possible for bank clients, as well as for the general public, to clarify doubts directly with the capital market regulator, at bank branches.

These sessions, where the speakers were CMVM officers, addressed topics such as general principles of investment, savings and the new digital instruments.

The Banking Open Day initiative - "Come and talk to CMVM" was held on 2 October at the same hour in 12 branches across the country. The banks BPI, CGD, Millennium BCP, Montepio, Novo Banco and Santander Totta joined this initiative.

More than 100 bank clients from the districts of Aveiro, Braga, Bragança, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal and Viseu took part in this edition of the Banking Open Day.

This initiative was part of the commemorations of the 2018 World Investor Week which, in Portugal, took place from 1 to 11 October. The World Investor Week (WIW), organised every year by IOSCO, aims to promote awareness to the importance of financial education and investor protection.
